Message on School Safety

We join all school communities in sending our deepest sympathy to the children, educators, and families in Florida who are dealing with the horrific act of violence imposed on Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

School safety is of utmost importance to Lodi Unified School District and, in the aftermath of yet another tragedy on a US school campus, we are revisiting safety protocols and making sure that all employees understand procedures.  Over the past several years, the district has greatly improved campus security and the Board of Education continues to support the improvement of safety measures.  We greatly appreciate the relationships we have with our local law enforcement agencies and thank them for their on-going assistance in maintaining safe learning and working environments.

Parents can help us keep everyone safe at school by talking to children about the importance of communicating social media activity that is in anyway related to violent behavior.  Please remind children that they might see something that adults don’t and that it is important to let a trusted adult know if there is something suspicious on any social media site.

We understand that these are sensitive and troubling topics to discuss with children.  Below are a few resources that may be helpful to parents in talking to children about these types of events.
